Create a Character
Turn transparent WebM videos into a character pack, then save a project backup for future editing.
1. Prepare transparent videos
Start with one video for the idle animation. MoniV plays rendered videos; it does not import Live2D model files directly.
- Format: WebM with VP9 video and alpha metadata (alpha_mode=1).
- Size: 1536×1536 or 3072×3072.
- Frame rate: constant 30 fps. 29.97 fps and variable frame rates are not supported.
- Audio is not used and is removed from the converted videos.
2. Install FFmpeg and add videos
Choose Create New in the library to open the editor. On first use, choose Install FFmpeg. Downloading requires an internet connection. About FFmpeg shows its distribution and license information.
Choose Add WebM Videos and select your videos. MoniV creates a project, validates the videos, and starts converting them automatically. Wait for conversion to finish. If conversion is interrupted, use Resume Conversion when you reopen the project.
3. Set playback triggers and interaction areas
Set each video’s Playback Trigger to Idle, On Click, or On Pet. Keep at least one Idle video.
For On Click and On Pet videos, choose Edit Areas or Edit Areas / Marks. Add rectangles on the preview, move or resize them, and save. You can define 1 to 16 areas.
For On Pet videos, choose marks such as hearts or stars, enter a custom symbol, change the color, or disable the marks. Choose Save Areas and Marks to confirm. These settings belong to each video.
4. Add names, an icon, and links
Enter the VTuber / Character Name, Outfit / Merchandise Name, and Creator Name. All are required before exporting. Changes are saved automatically.
Choose Create from Video to crop an icon. Drag and scroll to adjust the crop, then save. To add a link, choose an icon and enter a URL beginning with https://.
5. Export a character pack
When all videos have finished converting, choose Export. Enter a version such as 1.0.0 and choose a save location. MoniV creates a .moniv file that another user can import into their library.
Exporting keeps your project. Check the distribution terms for your model and videos before sharing the character pack.
6. Save a project backup
Use .monivproj for a backup you can edit later. Select your created character in the library and choose More Actions → Back Up. The backup contains project information, converted videos, and the icon.
To restore it, import the .monivproj file from the library. If the project already exists, MoniV asks before moving the current copy to the archive and replacing it. Keep your distribution .moniv and editing .monivproj files separately.
